Meet your Host,Vinny Grette
Vinny is the host of Cook Up A Story. He turns up on this food blog, in a book, and on his own Facebook page, all of which have the same name. Penned by Sharon Rudnitski, Vinny’s stories, articles and recipes are aimed at kids and their families interested in learning how to make smart food choices.
Vinny’s Blog
On his food blog here, Vinny posts recipes featuring foods that grow strong bodies and keep brains sharp. He focuses on simple recipes kids can make for themselves. Parents might want to supervise the younger ones. Vinny recommends healthy food options, but most recipes work well with whatever ingredients you have on hand. His tips on nutrition are written simply so that kids get why some foods make better choices than others.
Vinny’s Facebook page
Posts feature some recipes from his food blog. But Vinny also posts lots of articles by other experts that he finds useful for families wanting to choose healthy meals on the go. Click on the links on his Facebook page for the full article.
Vinny’s book
To order a copy of the book, leave a message here… just a few copies left. Or you can order from the printer and have the book sent straight to your door.
The book includes a half-dozen personal, family-themed adventures for kids 6-12 years old. Characters grapple with pushy teachers, unexpected loss, danger, making friends, and other childhood problems.
The stories are illustrated with charming drawings by Pierre Sylvestre, Sharon’s food photos, and recipes for the foods that play a role in the tale. Vinny’s recipes feature healthy food choices that he uses to pass along cooking tips, nutrition information, and advice on healthy living. Sharing stories, good food, and time in the kitchen is a great recipe for strengthening family ties.
Follow Vinny on his food blog here and on his Facebook page to make sure you get all the news.
Creators
My name is Sharon Rudnitski, the pen behind Cook Up A Story. An early interest in my family’s kitchen inspired my university degree in food science. A Gold Harvest award capped my publishing career with Agriculture Canada, won for a national science program I led for children. Since retiring, I enjoy bringing stories, recipes, and healthy-eating tips to kids in the community.
The book’s illustrator, Pierre Sylvestre, has built on 25 years of experience as animator, filmmaker and storyboard creator. Many of his drawings also grace this blog. Currently director of Scratch Production, Pierre also works for the Government of Canada.
Vinny Grette is the 12-year-old boy who lives inside all of us, regardless of the passing years. Welcome Vinny into your family, as we discover together a world of good eating. Let’s get cooking!

Hi Vinny,
Have you heard of “My Writing Process blog tour”? I hadn’t heard of it before, but it sounds really interesting! It’s another way for us bloggers to continue to get to know one another and be introduced to other blogs.
I’ve been invited to join the “My Writing Process” blog tour and have accepted for June 9th 2014. This tour rolls out across three new bloggers’ sites each week. So, I can invite three writers to carry the tour forward. I really admire your blog and think it would be interesting for more bloggers to hear about your writing process! I guess it’s essentially a chain letter of sorts, but a little bit more sophisticated!
Your date would be June 16th 2014. Please let me know if you’re interested. If you choose not to participate, that is completely fine with me too. Please just let me know, so I can ask other bloggers.
This is how it works:
Follow the steps below and post to your blog on the date given. Acknowledge the person who invited you and mention that the post is part of the My Writing Process Blog Tour; answer the four questions provided below, nominate (ask) three bloggers to follow with short bios and blog links for all.
FIRST: I’ll feature you on my blog on June 9th stating you’re next. Then it’s over to you to prepare your own blog post.
STEP ONE: Acknowledge the person & site that involved you in the blog tour. That’s me! Here’s the link to my blog http://www.articuleat.com
STEP TWO: Answer the 4 questions below about your writing process:
1) What am I working on?
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
3) Why do I write what I do?
4) How does your writing process work?
STEP THREE: Say who is on next week (your own chosen three) – give a brief bio and link to the website for each of them. Their date would be June 16th 2014.
Here’s a link to the blog tour post from the person who nominated the person who invited me, so you can see how it works:
I would love to learn a little more about you.
Please let me know if you’d like to participate ASAP, so I can ask others if need be. Thanks so much and keep blogging,
Sebby

Feb 26, 2014 @ 07:36:38
I’d like to invite you to participate in a new challenge that I am hosting at thewanderinggourmand.com to bring together the beer, wine, and food blogging worlds. As you may know, each month I host a Beer Versus Wine Pairing Challenge inviting readers to suggestion their perfect pairing with a monthly dish. I decided to make the challenge even more engaging by turning the challenge into a contest with bragging rights. Each month a dish will be presented. Bloggers have a week to post their perfect pairing and why in the comments section. The following week, I will summarize the comments in a post for a vote. The winner not only earns bragging rights but also the honor of coming up with the following month’s dish.
Right now the contest will be hosted at thewanderinggourmand.com. Future plans involve a breakout sight and a badge to post back on your blog. I welcome you to join the challenge as it begins today with Beer Battered Fish (http://thewanderinggourmand.com/2014/02/26/beer-battered-fish-pairing/).

• Nominate 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
• Finally, the hardest, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
All the best, Cheers

Nice blog! Pretty sure my boys would love your book. They already love to talk about nutrition, what has protein, calcium, good for you or bad for you etc. we try to balance it all out, some treats but mostly fruits, veggies and protein. I already fear what it will take to feed them when they are teenagers, they are already huge eaters at 3,5 and 6 years old!

Nov 13, 2013 @ 14:52:53
Wow, you’re lucky the boys like to eat a variety of things, as some kids can be pretty picky :). I was at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto on the weekend talking about my book and received lots of positive support. I’ll post a photo on Vinny’s Facebook page today so people can check it out :).

Thanks for dropping by! If Grandma taught you to use whole fresh foods (and to stay away from processed and fast foods with their array of strange chemicals), then I don’t think you can go far wrong. The one thing my grandma taught me that I no longer believe is good for my family is to have tea and cake before bed :). I’m pretty sure I eat a whole less sugar than she did (and both she and my dad came down with type 2 diabetes later in life). A warning there? I think so.

It’s just a little less fatty and for me every calorie counts ;( I also use black beans more often for nutrition reasons, although both kinds are good. If you’re interested, my thoughts on beans are here: https://cookupastory.wordpress.com/2012/03/05/shooting-down-the-bad-guys-behind-mr-beans-back-door/. I post once a week and my squash and turkey chili recipes are going up in the next month or so. I’m working ahead so I can take a little holiday :). I’ll put a link to your site in the turkey chili post if you like

Thank you, Ivon! The kids seemed to love the pie (which I had tried to simplify without removing the taste). One said he had never tasted sage before – so yummy, he thought. One told me frankly she didn’t like the pie but my other recipes were good… Interacting with the kids was the best part of the experience :).

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your nice comments. I came over to see yours after you asked that I check it out. I really love the idea of teaching children about food and nutrition, but still trying to exposed them to exciting things such as the escargot. Anyway, I have enjoyed reading some of your posts and will be sure to check back. By the way, I am going to add your blog to my blog roll list asap.

I got interrupted in replying to you – Vinny’s so glad you visited! Sometimes he gets carried away and I think his recipes may be too complicated for beginning chefs. But I hope he gets kids excited about getting into the kitchen and away from McDonalds! I just want to get kids thinking about what they eat and what each kind of food does for them. I’ll be sure to point them in your direction, because a REAL Vinny is a find indeed!
